My Information Design II class worked with the internship coordinator on a magazine publication containing the experiences our peers had working internships over the summer of 2023.

Editing and Prep
The class was given five students’ stories and divided into five groups. Each group would edit their assigned student’s narrative and design a layout in InDesign. I was assigned Luz Cruz’s article on interning at sustainable snacks with my partner Sarah Siyam. First we individually edited the copy considering the authors voice, tone, and style. Then we brought our edits together for the final clean copy.
Mood Board
To create a cohesive product that matched the text and the authors voice overall we made a mood board to agree on colors and our vison. We both agreed our author didn’t give us much to work with. We weren’t provided any pictures and there was much content or personality in our text. We looked to the company our author worked for as inspiration. What we got from that was an environmental theme. We decided on greens and browns with teal. We looked at Pinterest for layout inspiration and liked the idea of a large title sprawling across the spread. We used Canva to make the mood board.
Layout
Since we weren’t given any pictures like other groups we had to figure out how to fill up our space and make it visually engaging. The first thing we agreed to do is get pictures of what our author mentioned she made in her article. She designed the company’s logo and worked on their blog page, so we got those images. In the article she talked about how the internship was remote since the company was based out of Brooklyn. I had the idea to incorporate a map of where the company is located as a background. I went to the address on Google Maps and took a screenshot of it. I then took the image to photoshop and changed the coloring to match our design. I also included the logos of the tools she mentions when she was looking for an internship. Me and my partner gathered and wrote the information on the internship company, Sustainable Snacks and I got the image of their product form their website.
